I feel so sad learning about my dearest friend Jan. i so appreciate Jill calling me to break the new before posting on the Website. I had just talked to Jan the week before, having such a great catch up conversation about most everything in our lives. I was also doing my best to convince her to come to one of the Reunion events when she surprised me and said "We mght come to the Dinner" and laughed. I was thrilled. I have never come back to our reunions without seeing Jan, and now she might be attending! That was last week and now here we all are. Our beautiful classmate Jan will be so sorely missed by so many of us here, by her family and so many in the Bettendorf Community.

Jan Glancy obituary

Jan Glancy

March 28, 1954-August 9, 2022

BETTENDORF-A visitation to celebrate the life of Jan Glancy, 68, of Bettendorf, will be held from 1 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 14, 2022 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Jan passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning at Genesis East. To honor Jan, please wear clothing that exemplifies the bright light and pure joy that she radiated. Memorials may be made to the Friends of the Bettendorf Park Foundation or your favorite charitable organization.

Janice D. Brown was born on March 28, 1954 in Moline, a daughter of Douglas D. and Edith A. (McDougall) Brown. She graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1972. Jan and Denny's love story began as teenagers at the Dairy Queen, they were married on June 7, 1975 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Davenport. They have shared over 47 years of marriage but more than a lifetime of beautiful memories.

Jan worked at Mark Twain Elementary School in Bettendorf for 25 years retiring in 2014. She wore many hats at Mark Twain including unofficial nurse and counselor to students, teachers, and parents! She was always welcoming with a giant smile and a caring ear to listen. Jan had a therapy dog that she brought to school named Nip. Nip helped launch the Bettendorf School District's therapy dog program. Jan was a huge dog lover all her life!

Jan adored her family, was their greatest supporter and never missed a game. She was a mother figure to more than just her own children and will be missed by all who knew her. Jan loved being Denny's partner, Mom and a Grammy more than anything. Creating traditions, celebrating holidays and spoiling her grandchildren was what she did best. Jan's monthly trips to the casino and the joy her winnings brought her, made us all smile.

Those left to cherish Jan's memory is her loving husband, Denny, Bettendorf; children: Shaun (Katie) Glancy, Davenport, Abby (Chad Uhde) Brown, Bettendorf, and Emmy (Kyle) West, Bailey, Colorado; grandchildren: Brecken Glancy Brown, Avery Jayne Brown, Olivia Uhde, Kennedy Uhde, and Miles Glancy West; siblings: Doug Brown, Davenport, Sandi (Dave) Schutt, Iowa City, and Dave (Sue) Brown, Lafayette, Colorado; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jean Marie Scott, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Tom (Marie) Glancy, Austin, Texas, Bryan (Teresa) Glancy, Gurnee, Illinois, and Marty (Tim) Berchtold, Davenport, and many nieces and nephews.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jean Marie and Ray Glancy, and a sister-in-law, Beth Kelsey. May they rest in peace.

I was so saddened to hear of Jan's passing.  She was such a sweetheart & I think we all knew back in high school that her life would be as wonderful as she was.  And it was!  May she rest in peace knowing she will always be loved and remembered by all, including her classmates of '72!

It was sad news to hear about Jan's passing. We lived across the street from each other when we went to Jefferson Elementary. Her mom would teach us tumbling at the community center and we had so many fond childhood memories growing up on Hall Street and all through Middle and High school. I will never forget Jan's beautiful smile and personality. RIP Jan.

So sad about Jan's passing.  She was a beautifull person inside and out.  Thinking of her brings back so many fond memories.  She will be missed by so many family and freinds.

I, too, am saddened to hear the news of Jan's passing. I haven't seen Jan in years but fond memories of cheerleading and many sleepovers during our freshman and sophomore years in high school seem like yesterday. Prayers go out to Denny and their children, grandchildren, and other family members.Jan was a sweet, committed lady. She will be missed.
